2011 Michigan Fireworks Law Update

10-11-11 - HB 4293(H-4) passed the House Committee on Regulatory Reform in May. The current status can be found on the Michigan Legislature website. You can download a working copy of the bill here, as well as a copy of an educational Fireworks Primer written by Captain Boom.

The current working copy of the bill contains two major problems. 1.) The insurance requirement of $10 million for fireworks retailers is too high. 2.) The permit fees to sell fireworks are $1000 and $600 annually. In many cases, it won't be possible for a small business to buy that much insurance, and high permit fees just increase the cost of fireworks for everyone. Contact your Representative, and tell them to support making the annual permit fee $200 and the insurance requirement $1 million.
