When the Truck Arrives
- Ask the driver for the Bill of Lading (BOL) or Delivery Receipt — this is the delivery paperwork you will sign.
- Count every box and compare to the quantity listed on the BOL.
- If any are missing, write: “Short [X] box(es)” on the BOL.
- Never sign until you have verified the count and inspected for damage.

Inspect Before You Sign
Walk around your shipment. Check all sides and the bottom of each box for dents, tears, punctures, or crushed corners.
- If you see damage, note it directly on the BOL before you sign it. For example — '2 boxes damaged (crushed corners)'
- Take photos of the damage to the outer boxes before opening anything. Get all angles if possible. It's helpful to have photos from a few feet away and also up close to any damage.

Special Notes for Pallet Deliveries
If your shipment arrives on a pallet:
- Check that the plastic wrap is intact.
- If the wrap is broken or loose, recount all boxes.
- The BOL may list “1 unit (pallet)” but also include a box count — use the box count for verification.
- Write any shortages or damages on the BOL before signing.
